As you may know, John Harwood is the inventor of the automatic wristwatch and Fortis was the first watch manufacturer in the world to mass produce the first automatic wristwatch in 1926. Fortis has been located in the same building at Lindenstrasse 45 in Grenchen since its foundation and continues to produce automatic tool watches of the highest quality.
In 2024, John Harwood’s patent will be 100 years old. For this reason, and because the city of Grenchen wants to increase the visibility of the watch industry, our request to rename Lindenstrasse to John Harwood Strasse was unanimously approved this summer.
On Tuesday, 30. November, together with the Mayor of Grenchen, we have officially inaugurated the new road. Check out the pictures and see how we celebrated our new address: 13, John Harwood-Street, 2540 Grenchen.
Big thanks to the town council, the mayor Francois Scheidegger, and all involved for the great help in making our dream come true and to pay our respects to the man responsible for invention of the automatic watch: John Harwood.
