A major milestone was achieved in 1926 when we manufactured the world`s first automatic movement for wristwatches. Today, our automatic movements are still made in Switzerland. As firm believers in high-quality standards, we ensure that every single movement gets thoroughly tested before it becomes the heart & soul of a new FORTIS timepiece.
ALARM CHRONOGRAPH GMT with AM/PM indicator a one-of-a-kind movement
In 2012, to honor the 100th anniversary of Fortis we invented the F-2012 Caliber which combines Chronograph, Alarm and GMT functions into a symphony of watchmaking excellence. It is based on the F-2001 caliber where a single mainspring barrel and a striking mechanism with beaten mainspring and extra-large hammer was added. The alarm watch can be switched off or interrupted at will by means of a smooth-running pusher at eight o’clock. The alarm emits a 27 second long rattling sound after full winding. With a second crown at 10 the user is able to set a second timezone.
Balance Frequency: 28.800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) Power Reserve: 70 hours, weekend-proof
A built-in alarm is a rare complication in a mechanical wristwatch. Rarer still is an automatic chronograph with a built-in alarm. So rare, in fact, that FORTIS’s patented F-2001 movement, which went into serial production in 1996, was the first caliber so equipped. It was created in collaboration with the Zurich master watchmaker Paul Gerber, who gave the basic caliber a single mainspring barrel and a striking mechanism with beaten mainspring and extra-large hammer. The alarm watch can be switched off or interrupted at will by means of a smooth-running pusher at eight o’clock. The alarm emits a 27 second long rattling sound after full winding.
